Samsung: rotate your own photos on the Lock screen
- Open Settings → Wallpaper and style → Change wallpapers.
- Tap Gallery and select several images instead of one.
- Tap Done to apply them to the Lock screen.
Each time you turn the screen on, the next image appears. This works on the Lock screen only.
Samsung: Dynamic Lock Screen
- Go to Settings → Wallpaper and style → Change wallpapers.
- Under Wallpaper services, choose Dynamic Lock Screen.
- Pick the categories you like — landscapes, plants, pets, and more.
- Turn on Auto update and choose Wi-Fi only to avoid using mobile data.
Samsung: change the wallpaper with Modes
Modes and Routines can give each part of your day its own Lock screen.
- Open Settings → Modes and Routines.
- Pick a mode such as Sleep, Work, or Exercise, or create your own.
- Customize the Lock screen for that mode and choose a wallpaper.
When the mode turns on — at a set time, place, or when you start it — the wallpaper switches automatically.
Pixel: daily wallpapers
- Touch and hold the Home screen and tap Wallpaper & style → More wallpapers.
- Open one of Google’s collections, such as landscapes or textures.
- If the collection offers it, tap Daily wallpaper (or the refresh option) to get a new image each day.
Pixel doesn’t rotate your own photos natively, so use an app for that.
Apps that rotate wallpapers on any phone
- Muzei is a free, long-running app that sets a new artwork or photo on a schedule, from sources including your own folders.
- Automation apps like Tasker can change your wallpaper on any trigger — time, location, charging, or Wi-Fi network.
More options are in our list of the best wallpaper apps for Android.
Build a great wallpaper rotation
A rotation is only as good as the images in it. A few tips:
- Pick one theme. A set of ocean, flower, or city wallpapers feels intentional instead of random.
- Follow the seasons. Swap in fall, winter, or Halloween wallpapers as the year goes on.
- Use the same resolution. Mixing sharp and blurry images makes the low-quality ones stand out. 4K or 8K wallpapers keep every image crisp.
- Start from a pack. Curated wallpaper packs are made to work together.
ON Lock Screen for Android makes it easy to collect a set: download your favorites in 4K or 8K, then add them to your Samsung slideshow or rotation app.
Frequently asked questions
Does Android have a built-in wallpaper changer?
Some phones do. Samsung can rotate several Gallery images on the Lock screen and offers Dynamic Lock Screen, and Pixel can refresh some of Google’s wallpaper collections daily. Other phones need an app.
How many images can Samsung rotate on the Lock screen?
You can select several images from Gallery when setting the Lock screen wallpaper — up to 15 on recent One UI versions. The phone shows the next one each time you turn the screen on.
Does auto-changing the wallpaper use more battery or data?
Rotating your own photos uses almost nothing. Services that download new images, like Dynamic Lock Screen, use a little data — set them to update over Wi-Fi only.
Can I change the wallpaper based on the time or my location?
Yes, with automation. On Samsung, Modes and Routines can switch the Lock screen when a mode such as Sleep or Work turns on. Automation apps like Tasker can change it on almost any trigger.
